- 2008 Annual Meeting:
  
  The meeting will be held in the Edgewood Fire Department, District #8 office at 10105 24th St. E. in Edgewood on Wednesday, October 22nd at 7PM.
  
  There are three Board seats up for election this year so please send in your nominations to the Water Company no later than September 22, 2008. Be sure to include contact information for your nominee.
  
  The meeting agenda will include the election of the Board members, status of major projects, President's report, Treasurer's report regarding the financial audit, a question and answer period, and more. Please join us!
- Cities of Edgewood, Milton, and Fife to Sponsor Natural Yard Care workshops in the fall (POSTED 8/1/08)
  
  Would you like to learn about environmentally friendly yard and garden maintenance practices to help you have a beautiful and healthy lawn and landscape? This fall, the cities of Edgewood, Milton and Fife, in conjunction with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department are presenting fun and informative “Natural Yard Care” workshops. Learn how yard care practices can impact storm water and what we can do to protect our water quality. The workshops are presented as a series and will address yard maintenance issues including natural lawn care, smart watering techniques, garden design and selecting the right plant for the right place, growing healthy soil, pest management practices and backyard composting.
  
  Come hear advice from local experts, access useful information and resources, and enter to win great door prizes. Workshops will be presented as a series with different topics and speakers each evening on Wednesdays, September 17, October 1 and October 15. The workshops are free, but space is limited!   Purpose: HMGP-1734 PROJECT GRANT APPLICATION, Seismic Retrofit of 2 Water Reservoirs
  
  Details: Mt. View-Edgewood Water Company will be submitting an application to Washington State Emergency Management Division for a grant opportunity to seismic retrofit 2 water reservoirs.
  
  The grant opportunity comes through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) following the Federally declared disaster for the December 2007 Floods/Severe Storms(DR-1734), which provides technical and financial assistance to States and local governments for cost-effective pre-disaster hazard mitigation activities that reduce injuries, loss of life, and damage and destruction of property. FEMA provides grants to States and Federally recognized Indian tribal governments that, in turn, provide sub-grants to local governments (to include Indian Tribal governments) for mitigation activities such as planning and the implementation of projects identified through the evaluation of natural hazards.
  
  The grant requires a 12.5% local match, to be provided by the Company. The 12.5% local match could be provided as 'in-kind', such as employee time allocated to plan development or “hard funds”, such as cash. The Project will primarily address the seismic hazards that reservoirs face. 44 CFR Part 201.6 Hazard Mitigation Planning, establishes requirements for state, tribal, and local hazard mitigation planning. All jurisdictions must have a FEMA-approved and locally adopted Plan in order to be eligible for certain mitigation funding, the Company has a Plan in State and FEMA review at this time. As applications are due by June 30, 2008, please submit any comments no later than June 28. MTVE Water Judged Best in Washington State by AWWA!

Our members have long known that we have the best water in Washington State, and now an independent panel of judges has confirmed they agree! At the Pacific Northwest Section of AWWA conference on May 2, 2008, a panel of four judges conducted a taste test of tap water entered into the contest by water purveyors.

We submitted our water first in the South Sound Subsection preliminary contest, and we won this qualifying round which allowed us to compete in the Pacific Northwest level of competition. During the Pacific Northwest competition conducted in Vancouver, WA four judges taste-tested unidentified samples of all the qualifying entrants, and when the tests were completed and scores tallied, we beat all those from Washington State and Idaho, and we virtually tied with Medford, Oregon overall.

At that point a 5^th judge was asked to break the tie, and unfortunately we lost by ½ point to Medford for the best of the entire Pacific Northwest Section. Congratulations to Medford who gets to represent the Pacific Northwest Section at the upcoming national AWWA competition.

So it is more than just our opinion, MTVE has been judged the “Best tasting water in Washington State” by AWWA!
